Bike polo is a friendly but competitive semi-contact sport (You might come home with a few new bruises and a broken spoke.). Unlike your local footy or netball club, bike polo has no formal organisation or league. We are playing on Sunday in North Carlton from 3pm and next Tuesday in Docklands from 6pm till late.

Bike polo is open to everyone. We hold sessions for new players to ease you in and get you rolling around the court. Come along and we’ll help you get started.

We play on all kinds of bikes, from single speed, fixed and geared, mountain bikes and road bikes. Most people start out on their normal street bikes, and most regular players are happy to lend their bikes to you. Bring whatever you have at home and see what you think.

Mallets and everything else you’ll need are also available. We regularly hold mallet making workshops courtside in between games, so we can help you build your own custom mallet.

Bike Polo in Melbourne and Sydney is played three times a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Next sessions including Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Frankston, Castlemaine and Albury-Wodonga are listed on the right hand side of the main page.

Melbourne recently hosted the first Australian Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships in November 2009. Some of the best photos of the 2 day Championships can be found here .

In the near future, the front page and city pages will be updated to reflect the newest news from each city. The side panel will show future dates for all Australian cities, and courts information will be added for all cities, showing you where each city plays along with court stats, conditions and photos.

Each city has at least one editor at bikepolo.com.au. Please contact your local reps with news, photos and articles for the site.

Outer Edge covers Bike Polo

Today we (AJ) has taken out the “Melbourne” from our Bike Polo website in recognition of our many cities around Australia.

There is only room for 64 teams at World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships in Berlin August 13-15 this year. But before deciding who is eligible, Organisers created a survey to get a better sense of the interest. And because it’s still a way’s off, a lot of people don’t know their teams yet. This survey can either be filled out by a team member, representing a team, or by a player who does not know what team they’re on.

Deadline is Friday March 5th.

Thanks to the City of Melbourne for profiling us, yet again, in the City Hot Spots handbook. It’s a little nicely A6 sized 80 page booklet. You can get your hands on the latest copy from just about any bar, cafe or gallery in the City, or the usual council info-distribution points: Town Hall, Fed Sq, Bourke St Mall etc. Oh hey! Turns out Hot Spots also hasd a blog.
