Adelaide Easter Sunday Bench Tourney

This is ultra-short notice, but as we have never held a tournament in Adelaide we thought we might  do a practice one this coming Sunday.

Bench Tournament style.  Everyone who turns up will be in one of 3 teams, selected on the day.  Dodgy prizes,  BBQ and cold beverages.

Starts at 2pm sharp so get there early. Usual location

All going well Adelaide Bike Polo will hold a more formal and better organised tournament later in the year and extend the invitation out to other cities.

Australians at the World Championsips 2010

Boxing Kangaroo

Australia has been allocated entry for 4 teams at the World Championships in Berlin, 14-15 August, 2010.

At this stage, there are 5 Melbourne players*, 1 Sydney player and a team of 3 from Adelaide who are interested in attending.

If the interest exceeds 12 players at the end of April, we will contact the organisers, who have expressed a strong interest in Australian participation. In the unlikely event that interest still exceeds any additional alolocation we are able to achieve, we will have to make a case by case assessment of teams in the absence of any regional qualifiers for 2010.

(* including 2 North American who live here this year)

Post your interest below or in the thread at League of Bike Polo.

On your bike – TV shoot, Melbourne

Last Sunday (28th), 6 or us met with a TV crew to record a pilot episode for a new TV show called “On your bike”. Their aim is to get people looking at their bikes as a form of fun and not just a form of transport.

The Bike Polo piece took around 4 hours to record, some interviews with myself explaining basic rules, the mallets we use, where polo is played (Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane etc) and inviting viewers to check out the bikepolo.com.au website for more info. The show will have a national audience.

We played some games for the camera and some staged shots where the presenter, Sonia, tried to catch a pass and shoot a goal.. It took some time for her to get the hang of the new bike and mallet, but in the end we got there :-)

We showed off a few sweet passes and goals, tapping in and ball jointing

There was a good mix of people, not too many “beardy nerdy” people (thank you Hot Spots guide :-) and a few girls too

Thanks to everyone that could make it down!

The TV crew said they might have a cut ready in late April, so about a month from now. Will let you know as soon as the episode is ready to watch.

New polo frame outta Japan.

New Yabusame prototype frame out of Japan.

Some cool features including: cut out in back of seat tube to achieve super short wheel base, v brake mounts under the seat stays to protect your brakes, looooong drop outs for drastic gearing changes.

Not totally sure about all the frame cut outs. But this just a protype, so we’ll see how it holds up.

Not sure if its 700c or 26″
