Melbourne: Fishmarket Tuesdays

Melbourne: New Venue – This Tuesday

The next polo session, 6:30 Tuesday  20th Oct, will be at The Best Court in the Universe™, otherwise known as Fishmarket Arena.

It’s in front of the Melbourne Wholesale Fish Market on Footscray Road / Docklands Highway. The google maps satellite image shows the playing surface, but there’s been a bridge built on top of the road since the photo was taken.

Bring along your extension leads to get power from the generator to the flood lights.

Cecily Upton – a bike polo player from New York has been compiling a book of photographs of polo; by polo players all over the world for the last few months.

I submitted a few of my own photos for it, and am stoked to say that one of them made the cut!
I also spotted a few shots from Brad from Perth.

The book looks to be an awesome collection of some stunning photography, that also truely captures the community and atmosphere that is bike polo.

You can preview and purchase the book here!

The use of this online forum, as well as others, has allowed people from all over the world to find bike polo clubs in or near their city, advertise tournaments, and ask for advice on making mallets, bikes, or wheel guards. Don’t forget the healthy dose of shit talking. At this point I believe every major (and more and more college towns and smaller cities) US, Canadian and European city has a club playing weekly pick up games on unused tennis courts, parking garages, or roller hockey rinks. Asia, Australia and South America boast burgeoning clubs as well. continued…
